The Andrews Labor Government must commit to taking a bipartisan approach on road safety by immediately reinstating the joint Parliamentary Committee for Road Safety.
Prior to its abolition in 2015, the Road Safety Committee existed for over twenty years and was an integral part of Victoria becoming a road safety leader.
The Andrews Labor Government has achieved mixed results in relation to improving road safety and reducing road trauma in Victoria.
Labor has stopped listening to and engaging with the Victorian community about the practical improvements required to make Victorian roads and road users safer.
Just late last year, Labor revealed that it will rip $1.5 billion out of the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) to patch holes in its dire budget position.
These funds come out of registration fees paid by Victorian motorists that should be spent on improving the safety of Victorian roads, instead of being put straight into the government’s purse.
