Remembrance Day - Members statement

T Smith: Given that yesterday was Remembrance Day, I think it is important that we reflect on the enormous contribution that the Jewish community has made to our country and in particular the extraordinary leadership of Sir John Monash in leading the Australian Corps on the Western Front—the five divisions that so hastened the end of that dreadful conflict. I was so pleased yesterday to be at Kew High School, where the years 7 and 8 leaders led their school in a Remembrance Day ceremony. I laid a wreath and spoke to the students, and I was so proud to see that their remembrance of what our country did—in losing 61 000 young Australians in World War I—is going to be remembered for a very long time to come.
