A magistrate has described an ABC producer and five others, who glued themselves to a busy Melbourne intersection, as “…good citizens giving their time to the community in terms of their activism.”
With respect, this defies community expectations and erodes trust in our justice system.
This statement should not be misconstrued as criticism of the magistrate’s judgement in this matter.
However the magistrate’s comments with regards to the six perpetrators who glued themselves to a major CBD intersection, causing mass inconvenience for thousands of other Victorians, who were simply trying to go about their daily lives, are not the characteristics of good citizens. They are the characteristics of selfish hooligans.
