Statement from the Shadow Attorney-General and Shadow Minister for Police

Today’s protest at the Shrine of Remembrance is an insult to the more than 100,000 Australians who have died in the defence of our country and its values in all wars.

It is not, and will never be, acceptable to protest at the Shrine of Remembrance.

Comments attributable to Shadow Attorney-General, Tim Smith:

“We call for calm. We call for respect for our fellow Australians. We demand the Shrine is respected.”

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Police, Brad Battin:

“What we are seeing today is a Melbourne no one supports. Our police officers are being put in harm's way because of the appalling conduct of a group of people who should go home.”
