Yet another cladding disaster ignored by the Andrews Labor Government

A source familiar with Kardinia Park has briefed the Victorian State Opposition about dangerous cladding at the stadium.

The Andrews Labor Government has known of high risk flammable cladding covering Kardinia Park’s Hickey Stand since 2017.

The threat has been known for two football seasons and Daniel Andrews and his inept Planning Minister opted for silence, secrecy and inaction.

With A-League games and major events being held every weekend this October, the Andrews Government must make the stand safe from this unacceptable fire risk as an urgent priority.

Comments attributable to Shadow Minister for Planning, Tim Smith:

“The exterior of the Hickey Stand at Kardinia Park is clad in the most dangerous combustible material, which is rated at the highest end of the scale.”

“The Andrews Labor Government must make the fire risk assessments of the Hickey Stand available to the public, as the Government is again trying to misled Victorians as to the true nature of the fire risk at this important football ground.”

“The Andrews Labor Government urgently needs to rectify this disaster to ensure the safety of players, spectators and employees.”
